Happy Patrick's Day!

In Ireland, they don't call it St. Patrick's Day, it's simply 'Patrick's Day'.

They don't wear green on patrick's day, and they think it's silly that we do.

The Pat's day parade in Dublin is easily THE best parade I've been to.

In Ireland, Patrick's day is celebrated kind of like Independence day is in America. No fireworks, but they have a huge parade, everyone dresses in Ireland gear, and everyone hangs and wags their Irish flags. It's also one big giant country-wide party.

And guiness really is as popular there as we think it is.

i read in our paper yesterday an interview with some local pub owners. ONE small pub or bar in edmonton on st patrick's day will sell a MINIMUM OF 10,000 PINTS of guiness. ONE PUB in ONE day, and irregardless of all the OTHER beer like alexander kieths that is also sold and irregardless of the green beer! 10,000 pints of guiness!

I wonder why we associate St. Patrick's day with green beer to us. I wonder how that came about? Really St. Pat was the second man to bring Christianity to the Ireland, but he first one to really make an impact with it on the people there. He was taken as a captive by some of them, and lived there in captivity for a long time, eventually got back home to England, and then went back to bring them Christianity, having an idea of their culture aided him in knowing hoe to share it with them......I think that is the story anyway....I studied him briefly in one my mediaeval British history class.

yeah, you're right. he was basically the one that brought christianity to Ireland. I also find it strange that it has become a big drinking day, since it's honoring the man that brought religion to the country. That stat is crazy Les! Totally believable though! It's a country that likes to drink, that's for sure. On St. Pat's day too, that's not something that only we do!!
And yes, Amy, I was in Ireland for st. pat's day 2003, it was wonderful. I got to be in the big parade. Ireland is so fun, and so pretty.

Lovely and green is a good way to describe it. My senior year of high school, our band was invited to be in the parade. We've got one of the top bands in the state, and I guess it got us noticed. We marched in the parade, played at St. Patrick's cathedral (one of the most incredible buildings in the world), marched in a smaller parade and made a couple of cool appearances. It was the trip and honor of a lifetime. The big parade was just amazing
