But Not

This is one of my favorite books. It's hilarious and I get to read it periodically to children at work.
Here's some example pages:

A Cat and a rat are trying on hats... But not the hippopotamus!

A frog and a hog are dancing in a bog... but not the hippopotamus!

Each page has 2 cute animals having fun and then the next page shows the hippo not having fun and very sad
It's funny and really cute and everytime I read it, I'm sure to get a 'hippoponamus' from the kid I'm reading to.

what is the moral of the story... or does it end with the hippo having a glorious time in a puddle, or anything?

i would hope that the hippo ends up having fun... otherwise that might be kind of sad in the end for the kids.

i think the end is "but not the armadillo" I don't remember if the hippo ends up having fun at the end or if he dissapears. I'll make sure to check next time I read it, and let you know the verdict

wow, the depressed outsider just disappears at the end of the book, never knowing that the armadillo also feels the same way sometimes? that is a sad book.

is there a sequel perhaps called "not the armadillo"? perhaps it's a trilogy and in the third book the hippo and the armadillo meet up and become friends and live happily ever after..
