Landlords are of the devil
Bah! I'm so glad there's a place that's completely outside of my circle of people that I can freely complain to.
My landlord just called me and for 20 minutes went on and on, with broken promises and lectures on things I have no concern with. Sooo annoying! Several months ago she promised us a new dryer (ours is broke), a new dishwasher (ours is yearning for the junkyard), and a new fridge. We got a second freezer, so we really don't need the fridge anymore. As I said, the promise came several months ago. We still haven't heard word on any of those, so we wrote her a nice, professional letter asking her about them. She called me today (why me?!?! out of any of the 3 of us!!) and told me that she doesn't really want to buy a new dryer and probably won't fix this one either and we don't need a new fridge and she has the dishwasher ready to go just hasn't done anything about it yet. Our dryer can barely even be called a dry-er anymore, and it's just in-humane to say you're not going to do anything about it! And then after that crap, she proceeded to lecture me on things I have zero dealings with. Like: her problems with her daughter, a situation that's between my roommate and her, and her personal financial situation. I DON'T CARE!!! Call her daughter, my roommate, and an accountant and whine to them but please oh please do not waste my work time lecturing me on such things!!!!! And actually let me add that I don't wish that on her daughter, so don't call her after all. BAH!
So, after all that, it might be just a little okay if I was getting a new dryer out of it, but OH NO, I probably won't!!!!!! Agghhhhh

one time, in my very first apartment, my oven used to electricute me. i mean i could feel currents of electricity flowing through my body. when i told my landlord he told me they were just shocks. so i was like, "no, i'm pretty sure that i know the difference between a shock and electricution." but he told me i was imagining things. then the lock on our patio doors didn't work, and he refused to fix it. he told me, were he to fix the patio door lock, rent would have to go up.....last i checked, rent included doors that locked....there were other things too. but the electricutions and door that wouldn't lock seem to stand out the most. anyway what i am getting at is, yes, landlords can be awful.
today my dad and i were in tim hortons and this young guy beside us was on a cell phone YELLING at his landlord about issues with fire safety and fire regulations, and how they were not issues of his business but issues of her landlording and that his business was in jeopardy if a fire marshal ever came in. he was SO LOUD and kept trying to stop talking aobut it and saying the name and phone number of his lawyer which she would have to discuss it with from now on. also he said many times that it was unfortunate her current situation, but that he only wants to relate to her on a business level and that no personal situation can come in the way of business. that's what reminded me of what you say, her somehow bringing other topics into he issue.
Thanks for those stories, they made me realize I'm not the only one and also made me laugh. Electricution is much worse than waiting an eternity for dry clothes and hoping your dishes come out alive. Leslie, I'm still laughing about a guy yelling to his landlord his lawyers number, in public!
it makes you wonder though doesn't it? why these people choose to be landlords if their personal lifes are going to get in the way of them actually doing their jobs. weird.
I completely agree! And they should be happy that someone is renting their place or else they'd have much higher expenses on their hands.
